About Eastern Palliative Care

Operating since 1997, Eastern Palliative Care Association Incorporated (EPC) is the largest single provider of community-based palliative care services in Victoria, supporting the Eastern Region of Melbourne. EPC is fully accredited by The Australian Council on Health Care Standards, ensuring quality, safety, and high performance across its service delivery.

Led by CEO Gaylene Coulton, EPC faces challenges in providing palliative care services and supporting clients’ wishes to be cared for at home. EPC is largely government funded but also conducts fundraising to increase service offerings.

The need for experienced leadership

Working closely with the CEO, the General Manager – Nursing & Medical Services oversees EPC’s large team of nurses and medical officers providing client home care.

To further develop its services, EPC sought an experienced leader who could participate in strategic planning, ensure service quality, and effectively manage resources and staff.

The executive search process

Having successfully placed executives at EPC before, Brooker Consulting managed the search process. They communicated with 120 potential local candidates and advertised externally, generating significant interest.

Five strong applicants were presented to EPC’s Selection Panel, with four being interviewed. Utilizing their methodology, Brooker Consulting put forward standout candidate Maria Logan.

The outcome

With over 20 years’ nursing experience across various hospital departments, Maria Logan was appointed General Manager – Nursing & Medical Services in late 2022.
