The organisation

Eastern Palliative Care Association Incorporated (EPC), is the largest single provider of community based palliative care services in Victoria and supports the Eastern Region of Melbourne.  EPC has operated since 1997 as a partnership between the Order of Malta, Outer East Palliative Care Service Association Inc., and St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne.

The brief

There are many challenges in providing a palliative care service to our community and EPC has worked to ensure clients who meet admission criteria are supported in their wish to be cared for at home. EPC is largely funded by the Department of Health, Victoria.  EPC also conducts fundraising programs to increase income and in turn, service offerings. 

In April 2022 Brooker Consulting was informed that Jeanette Moody had announced her intention to retire.  The Committee of Management accepted Brooker Consulting’s proposal for a search and selection campaign to identify EPC’s next Chief Executive Officer.  Brooker Consulting enjoyed a strong relationship with the organisation, having placed a number of members of the senior executive team over the years.

The outcome

After a rigorous process involving targeted search, combined with a print and online media campaign, Gaylene Coulton was announced as CEO in July 2022.  After being a community palliative care specialist Registered Nurse and Nurse Educator for several years, Gaylene brought her passion for the provision of high-quality specialist palliative care together with her strong values-based leadership and management expertise that she had acquired in her most recent executive roles.
