About MTPConnect

Formed in December 2015 as part of the Federal Government’s Industry Growth Centres Initiative, MTPConnect is an independent, national not-for-profit organisation aiming to accelerate the growth of Australia’s medical technology, biotechnology and pharmaceutical (MTP) sector. The entity is guided by an experienced Board of Directors and managed by a professional executive team.

MTPConnect raises awareness, fosters collaboration, aggregates existing knowledge and shares it with the broader MTP sector. It also jointly funds projects that address sector growth priorities. With the establishment of key hubs in Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane, this Growth Centre orchestrates operations from its head office in Melbourne.

The need for a new chair

After 7 years with Sue MacLeman as inaugural CEO and later Chair, she has decided to retire from the MTPConnect Board. The organisation needed an experienced leader who could continue Sue’s legacy of relationship building, attracting funds and working with key stakeholders.

The executive search process

Brooker Consulting was engaged to conduct the executive search, given their record of successful appointments in the sector. After a detailed briefing with stakeholders, Brooker launched an extensive campaign combining advertising and targeted searches. This generated impressive interest and a strong shortlist of candidates.

The outcome

After interviews and assessments, consensus emerged that the Honourable Jaala Pulford would be the best appointment as the new Chair of MTPConnect. Her expertise in strategy, governance and stakeholder engagement was seen as vital to facilitate the organisation’s vision to improve human health by taking action.
