Chief Executive Officer
The appointment of Duane Findley
The Royal Australian and New Zealand Association of Radiology
Chief Executive Officer

The organisation
The Royal Australian and New Zealand Association of Radiology was founded in 1935, by a team of radiologists who wanted the profession to be formally recognised. It was reorganised in 1949, to become the College of Radiologists and finally became the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) in 1998. The history of the College is archived in the Trainor Owen Museum where the contributions of the College, to medicine and society in general, are celebrated.
With a membership base of around 4600, RANZCR exists “to drive the safe and appropriate use of radiology and radiation oncology to optimise health outcomes through leadership, education and advocacy.” A range of initiatives exist to promote the science and practice to professionals across the radiology field including Clinical Radiologists and Radiation Oncologists by allowing access to further knowledge and setting standards and guidelines to support high-quality work. By adhering to the five key pillars laid out in its Strategic Plan, namely – Engagement, Advocacy, Education, Clinical Excellence and Organisational Governance and Sustainability, it strives to deliver value for its members whilst making a positive and lasting impact on patient care and the professional life of its members.
The brief
RANZCR encompasses two Faculties, the Faculty of Clinical Radiology and the Faculty of Radiation Oncology. The Faculties are the peak bodies for the professions in Australia and New Zealand with local branches in New Zealand and in each state of Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. The Faculty of Radiation Oncology offers world-class training, professional education, research, innovation and collaboration to help treat cancer. The second peak body is The Faculty of Clinical Radiology which aims to improve the standards of training and practice in clinical radiology to meet the needs of consumers and the community. Faculty training programs allow practitioners to experience a variety of settings and centres to ensure their trainees become competent and safe clinical radiologists.
Active in the research arena, the College supports a variety of research projects and the professional development of members. This support extends overseas through the College’s International Development Fund with grants to improve patient care initiatives and to raise the standard of practice in both disciplines.
Brooker Consulting has been requested by the Interim CEO to submit a proposal for the provision of executive search and selection services to assist the College in recruiting an outstanding candidate for the substantive position of Chief Executive Officer.
The process
After demonstrating a record of successful relevant past appointments in the sector, Brooker Consulting was engaged to conduct an executive search and selection process to identify the next Chief Executive Officer for RANZCR.
An extensive strategy was outlined and the campaign was launched by Brooker after a detailed briefing with key stakeholders. A comprehensive combination of external advertising and targeted executive search generated an impressive level of interest and a high-quality shortlist.
The outcome
After the interview process, consensus was reached that Duane Findley was the preferred candidate.
""It is my pleasure to introduce Duane Findley as the new CEO of the College. Duane is a senior leader with a strong track record of delivery in member associations, not-for-profit organisations, professional services, governance and corporate businesses. Duane has well over a decade of executive experience in sectors such as education, governance, resources, infrastructure, consulting and a major medical college. He served as interim CEO of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) from September 2018 to February 2020, taking the helm to resolve some very challenging issues. He has held concurrent directorships, chaired a national organisation, and most recently served as a pro-bono board governance advisor for a major charity. The Board is very much looking forward to working with Duane.""
